Several BAG-INTEL project partners participated in the seminar “From Risk Imagination to Safety Intervention – Managing Risks with Knowledge,” organized by the European Safety, Reliability, and Data Association (ESReDA) on November 14–15, 2024, at NCSR Demokritos in Athens, Greece. Supported by NCSR Demokritos, ESRA, and Heling Energy, the event brought together researchers, engineers, risk analysts, and post-doctoral fellows from various sectors and industries to explore the identification, analysis, and mitigation of risks using knowledge-driven approaches.

The seminar was divided into five sessions and featured 21 presentations, including five keynote speeches, fostering dynamic discussions and knowledge sharing among attendees.

BAG-INTEL was highlighted in a dedicated session, where three papers showcasing the project’s cutting-edge developments in risk management and security technologies were presented:

  • “Risk-based Customs’ Intrusive Inspection Decision Making: Algorithm & Preliminary Case Study” by Lamia Hammadi, Eduardo Souza de Cursi, Mohamed Eid, and Henrik Larsen.
  • “Processing Heterogeneous Data Sources for Risk Management by Knowledge Graph Databases: The Case of BAG-INTEL Research Project” by Bartolome Ortiz-Viso, Karel Gutierrez-Batista, M. Dolores Ruiz, and Maria J. Martin-Bautista.
  • “BAG-INTEL: A Hierarchical Multi-Cloud IoT-Edge-Cloud Architecture for Enhanced Airport Security and Operation” by George Bardas, Panayiotis Michael, Panayiotis Tsanakas, George Lalas, and Henrik Larsen.

The presentations underscored BAG-INTEL’s innovative approach to leveraging modern technologies to advance customs operations and enhance airport security.

The seminar was a great success having gathered an engaged audience of 60 experts from 11 countries. The full seminar program is available here while the official proceedings will be accessible for free download within six months.
