Ethical and Societal Implications of Security Technologies in Border Management – Online workshop
November 20 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
The webinar will explore the ethical and societal implications of security technologies within the border management domain. This collaborative event, co-organized by four EC-funded projects: I-SEAMORE , BAG-INTEL, ODYSSEUS, and FLEXI-Cross, will bring together top experts who will highlight the latest developments and challenges in aligning security technologies with legal, societal, and ethical standards. The keynotes will cover legal frameworks like the AI Act, ethical dilemmas, such as privacy and discrimination, and technological strategies for embedding values like fairness and transparency into technologies used in border management. The practical challenges in implementing these principles will also be discussed. The workshop will provide a valuable opportunity for the consortia members of the organizing projects, including ethics and legal experts, civil society organizations, security agencies, and technology providers to exchange know-how and collaborate on actionable next steps.
BAG-INTEL will be represented by Henrik Larsen of Legind Technologies (Denmark) and Javier Valls-Prieto of the University of Granada (Spain).
