On February 18, 2025, BAG-INTEL was presented at the Spanish Community of Users (CoU) Event in Madrid. The event, co-organized by the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) and the Spanish Ministry of Interior, gathered key security stakeholders, policymakers, and research institutions to discuss advancements in security technologies.
As a Spanish partner in the BAG-INTEL consortium, Ingeniería de Sistemas para la Defensa de España (ISDEFE) led the project’s presentation, highlighting its AI-driven approach to optimizing baggage screening processes at customs checkpoints. The session also featured the participation of other Spanish consortium members, including the Civil Guard, Spanish Customs, and the University of Granada.
During a concise yet impactful presentation, ISDEFE emphasized the challenges that customs authorities face in efficiently detecting contraband and how BAG-INTEL leverages artificial intelligence, IoT, and multi-cloud technology to enhance security operations, reduce workload, and improve accuracy in baggage screening. ISDEFE presented how the solution integrates AI-powered X-ray scanning analysis, risk assessment using external databases, and real-time luggage reidentification using AI-enhanced cameras, ensuring non-intrusive yet highly effective customs control.
The event provided a unique platform for BAG-INTEL to engage with security end-users, policymakers, and researchers, reinforcing the project’s commitment to AI-powered innovation in border security. By actively participating in this forum, BAG-INTEL contributed to discussions on future research priorities and technological advancements in customs control and border management. This participation strengthens the project’s visibility within the European security research community, paving the way for further collaboration and the potential integration of BAG-INTEL solutions into real-world customs operations.
