On April 16, 2025, BAG-INTEL took the spotlight at the AI Operations in Border Management webinar hosted by the I-SEAMORE project. The event gathered over 80 participants and brought together experts and innovators from leading EU-funded initiatives to explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping border and customs operations across Europe.

Representing BAG-INTEL, Technical Coordinator Georgios Bardas (Netcompany-Intrasoft SA) delivered a presentation titled “AI-powered BAG-INTEL solution: Transforming customs operations at international airports.” His talk offered an in-depth look at how the project is tackling current challenges in customs control through the development of advanced AI-based solutions. His presentation covered:
- Current customs control practices at international airports and their limitations
- The BAG-INTEL approach to streamlining operations
- A visual overview of the system under development
- Multi-sensor-based luggage risk assessment and visualization tools to support customs officers’ decisions
- The state of the art and how BAG-INTEL aims to advance it
- BAG-INTEL deployment scenarios across three European airports
The webinar also featured a keynote by Giulio Maria Mancini (European Commission, DG HOME), as well as contributions from fellow projects METEOR, ODYSSEUS, and I-SEAMORE itself. A lively panel discussion followed, focusing on AI-related challenges, shared threats, and the real-world impact of the solutions under development, along with a live Q&A session with the experts.
BAG-INTEL’s participation reinforced our commitment to supporting smarter, safer, and more efficient border management through AI-driven innovation.
